From The Editor...
Thank you for your interest in MAGIC Live! I hope you will join us next summer for this unconventional convention celebrating the 18th Anniversary of MAGIC Magazine. As with the previous three events, we will once again be bringing the pages of our monthly magazine to life! If you enjoy MAGIC, come live it for four days and nights in August!
Secrecy
After our 2007 “Sweet Sixteen” gathering, we asked our attendees to tell us some of the things they liked and, more important, some of the things they didn’t like. The good news is that our registrants were very responsive; in fact, we received over 60,000 words of likes and dislikes — all good for a team that is dedicated to presenting the absolute best magic gathering possible.
One of the areas that received numerous comments was our secrecy policy, especially not revealing the names or subjects of our daily speakers. So, we’re adjusting our policy of keeping everything a surprise. While we will not announce any names in advance, upon your arrival, you will have the opportunity to know, or not to know, our complete schedule of presenters — your choice! That way, you can plan your days as you wish. Of course, we will still surprise you in our close—up and stage shows.
Registration
Registration is now open for MAGIC Live! 2009. (And yes, our ad in the July issue of MAGIC is misprinted. Registrations do not open in 2009!)
And here’s some more good news: We’re not requiring full-payment until next year. A $50 deposit gets you on the list and assures you the best seating preference available at the time you sign up. The balance of $285 will need to be paid by February 1, 2009.
And one more thing: Your $50 deposit is fully refundable up until December 31, 2008. So, you really have nothing to lose, except guaranteed seats at a convention that sold out over five months in advance last year.
Hotel
Where is MAGIC Live! going to be held in 2009? Well, I can’t say. No, we’re not keeping that a surprise. It’s just that, for the past three events, we signed the hotel contract without knowing what our A/V and catering needs were going to be. This left us with a few surprises about price and quality of service. While we like giving you surprises, these are not the kind of surprises we’re looking for! So, we’re busy negotiating with a couple of hotels, trying to figure out the best place for our 2009 experience to be held. We’ll let you know just as soon as the ink is on the paper.
FAQs
I’ve tried to be brief in this message — okay, “brief” is a relative term! If you have more questions, please check out our Frequently Asked Questions by going to FAQ above. And if you would like to read about the 2007 MAGIC Live!, go to Reviews. There’s also a slideshow of photographs from the event.
Help Create!
We’re still thirteen months away from our opening night “Cover” party. And while we have a board full of ideas already being worked on, there’s always room for more. Please take a few minutes and answer a couple questions for us and offer your suggestions of how we could make 2009 the best ever. Just click on Survey at the top of this page. We are listening.
Thanks, again. And I hope to see you at MAGIC Live! in 2009!
